Lives and works in Long Beach, CA

A good 40 years ago, Dave Clark was making tables and wall constructions, which led to numerous shows well as representation of his tables through design centers in both Miami and Laguna Beach. He drifted away from his art once he became an Educator, shifting his energy to meeting the needs of his students and other artistic interests (he also has been publishing a magazine dealing with high-end audio for the past 25 years). Since retiring in 2016, he has returned to his art and tables.

His early inspiration came from the patterns and complexities found in electrical substations and common shapes, materials, and patterns found in everyday objects. Today his inspiration comes from lying awake at night and not being able to sleep… and then thinking; Oh, yeah, that would be cool to try. He loves repetition and order, as well as playing with materials or surfaces against other materials or surfaces, all with textures and shapes. To counter-balance the potential of sterility and sameness, one can find a sense of humor and playfulness in various pieces. He wants his pieces to age, as people do, so many are left raw and unsealed.

He sees his art as more dysfunctional than functional, though many are... well, rather functional.

And while he has not had any formal education in Art or Design - he did have an art class in Middle School and classes in Drafting and Architecture in High School - he does have degrees in Psychology and Sociology, as well as advanced degrees in Education.
